The practice of using a float tank for separation of light
materials from heavier materials has been common
for many years. However, there are many problems
associated with water based separation.
One problem
is the time and cost of maintenance. When waste enters the tank, residue is released into the water, creating a slurry that may contain contaminants that can not just be dumped down the drain. Within the water tank, there is also typically a chain or belt conveyor which can corrode, jam, or break, causing unnecessary downtime for repair.
Another problem
arises once the material leaves the tank. Wet material is significantly harder to handle, as it is heavier and tends to stick to conveying and machinery surfaces.
Air classification is a clean and efficient alternative to
classification with water. The solution works through
the combination of high volume, low pressure air and
vibratory movement. The air forces the light material
over an opening in the bottom of the unit, allowing the
heavies to fall out. This method leaves you with precise
separation without the high maintenance cost or mess
associated with the float tank.
